Our History

Progressive Spiritualist Church (PSC) of Indianapolis received its charter (No. 29) in 1913 from the Indiana State Association of Spiritualists. Services were held at 608 N.  Liberty St, Indianapolis. In February of 1926, The First Spiritualist Church of Indianapolis and PSC consolidated to form a single church to be known henceforth as Progressive Spiritualist Church. During this time the church became incorporated under the laws of the State of Indiana as a 501 (c)(3). Another merger took place in 1946 when The Spiritualist Church of God united with PSC.  In later years, but certainly by 1942, the church relocated to 749 Park Avenue, Indianapolis and remained until 1967. The next ten years, PSC found other spaces to lease until they purchased the building at 6225 Carrollton in 1977 and converted it for church use. In April of 2010, the building on Carrollton became too small and was sold. May of 2010, the church held its first services in its current home at 2201 E. 54th Street.

PSC honors those who have served the church over the more than 110 years in existence: including but not limited to members F.D. Craig, first Board President listed, Matthew Camden  who signed consolidation papers in 1926, Rev. Joseph Bolander, Rev. John Van Meir, Paul Leach, Sister Edith Wade, Rev. Paul Keller, Tom White, Harriet Hoagland, Don Kemp, Sandy Tucker, Rev. Darlene Gettle, Rev. Susan Hill, and Rev. Mike Mellott.

Through the more than a century of spiritual awakening, PSC continues to grow and be in service to our congregation and the community.
